Thank
you for trusting me with your child(ren) during these Wednesday evening hours.
My
goal is to come along side of you and help you invest eternally in the lives of
your children. This takes intentional
effort and hard work but it is worth it!
Just as you must plan ahead to have your children at their next game or
event, engaged and ready, so you will have to plan and prep in order to succeed
in their eternal preparation.
Thankfully, God knew how hard this might be so He gave you a suggestion
for getting it done. It’s found in
Deuteronomy 6:7 “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall
talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when
you lie down, and when you rise up.”
Frankly, Unplugged, is more
about helping you, the parent, than about helping your children.
The
memorization of Scripture, Catechism, and the Apostle’s Creed should be fun and
engaging. Look for ways to be
creative…placemats at your dinner table, posters, symbols that remind you to
recite (red traffic lights/stop signs), craft projects with the verse, motions
that become pantomime, etc. Do not force
the learning…simple repetition by you will make a difference. Do not be discouraged if they do not wish to
recite on Wednesday nights…just keep placing it in front of their eyes and in
their hearing. As you are very aware,
they pick up much more than we give them credit for!
I
will be keeping a notebook of your child and what they have recited and when
they have earned badges for different memory work recited. They can work on the same verse, catechism
selection, or creed for as long as it takes.
Even though we will move on to new things, your child may go at their
own pace. I hope to have booklets for you after VBS that
will help you to keep track also. If you
wish to have your child memorize in the KJV vs. the ESV (or another
translation), that is not a problem.
Just have them bring their Bible marked to that passage. We will be going over Scripture from the ESV
in our time together.
Yours
for the children,
Charlotte
